My Experience at the Vintage Ideas Market

On Sunday after lunch, my boyfriend and I headed down to the Vintage Ideas Market at Simondium Country Lodge, nestled in the heart of the Cape Winelands, to see what the hoo-hah was about and to support a few traders I know who had set up stalls there for the long weekend. We were greeted by a snazzy looking security guard in a top hat at the entrance of the lodge who obligingly showed us the way to the market. Beyond the romantically rustic entrance, the garden was decorated with shabby chic vintage and upcycled furniture and garden ornaments for sale. Every room was filled with an assortment of unique vintage and antique collectibles, kitchenalia, hand crafted goods and a touch of fashion. We spent a good couple of hours browsing, chatting to stall-holders and enjoying the old worlde ambiance. See for yourselves below!

The breathtaking views on the way to Franschhoek

A classic car parked just outside the entrance to the market

They had their bunnies in a row...

Upcycled, vintage and hand made wares

A cloth can speak a thousand words

Self portrait in an antique dresser mirror

Hand made shell chandelier hanging outside

A rustic wrought iron structure on the grass outside

My pumpkin, next to two rather overgrown pumpkins

Incanda's panoramic advertisement

Done shopping, the crowds enjoying their tea in the fresh farm air

Another shot of the amazing view of the surrounding mountains

Find of The Week – Leather Trim Cane Basket Bag

I remember when I was a little girl growing up in the 90s, my Mom gave me a special bag from her youth. It was a compact box-like bag with a woven cane structure and sweet pink lining. My grandmother had bought it for her back when the stories on the radio were the primary form of entertainment and friends would actually phone each other for hours in the afternoon to catch up on the latest gossip.

This week’s FOTW reminds me of that bag my mother gave me, which I held so dear and wore and played with to tatters. Through the years, after moving several times and many a spring-clean, I’ve lost track of the bag. It still has a little place in my heart though, which is why I think this bag resonates with me.

Plus, it looks almost identical to the bag featured in the offbeat film Nurse Betty (see below)! Available here.

Find of The Week – Turkish Kilim Carpet Bag

This beautiful, one-of-a-kind handbag was just added to the collection. It is made from an original Turkish kilim carpet and genuine leather trim by Celine Creations, a Tercan company which as far as I know does not make handbags any more! This style of bag is extremely rare and as every kilim carpet is hand made, this item is truly unique. Check out the store for this and more amazing deals.

Find of The Week – Colour Block Patch Handbag

This bag is so retro and awesome, I’m lost for words. Made from 100% leather in an amazing patchwork of vivid colours, and with a slightly worn look (but still in good condition), it’s a stunner. Grab it here.
